Documentary filmmaker Meg Froelich has been appointed to fill the seat in the Colorado House of Representatives soon to be vacated by Democratic Rep. Jeff Bridges.

Froelich, of Greenwood Village, will represent House District 3. She will be sworn in Jan. 14.

Bridges, also from Greenwood Village, was selected Saturday by a Democratic Party vacancy committee to replace the departing state Sen. Daniel Kagan, D-Cherry Hills Village.

Kagan had announced last month he would resign his Senate District 26 seat effective Jan. 11. Bridges will be sworn in Jan. 14.

In filling Bridges’ House seat, Froelich prevailed over union and campaign organizer John Stone by a 45-13 vote of a District 3 Democratic Party vacancy committee that met Monday night in Englewood, the Colorado Independent reports.

Froelich — a former Greenwood Village city council member — had run against Bridges in the 2016 primary but lost.

In 2016 she co-produced a documentary, “Strong Sisters,” telling the story of elected women in Colorado.

She has served on the boards of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado and Emerge Colorado; the latter group recruits women candidates.

One House seat remains to be filled. Republican Rep. Bob Rankin is leaving the House District 57 seat to replace Sen. Randy Baumgardner, whose resignation is effective Jan. 21. A vacancy committee will select Rankin’s replacement on Feb. 5. His wife, Joyce, a member of the state board of education, has announced her intention to seek the seat.
