Polis’ mom takes post-election shot at Stapleton

Gov-elect Jared Polis kept his family out of his campaign, for the most part, but his mom made her feelings about Walker Stapleton known on social media Wednesday night.
About 24 hours after her son was declared the winner, his mom, Susan Polis Schutz, had something to say to the Republican nominee. And she said it on his campaign Facebook page, under a Tuesday night post in which Stapleton said he had congratulated his Democratic rival on his victory.

“It is time for everyone to come together and work for the good of Colorado,” Stapleton posted. “Thank you to everyone for your support throughout this campaign.”
The new governor’s mother had some bones to pick from the campaign trail, however.
“In an interview, you mentioned that your one regret is that people did not see your true fun personality. Of course they didn’t. You, probably guided by your campaign, totally lied in attack ads against Jared and you meanly attacked him in brochures and words. You knew the truth, yet your immoral attacks dominated your campaign. So if you have a fun personality, it sure didn’t show.
“If you ever run for something again and you want people to see you how you ‘really’ are, you need to be compassionate, truthful and honorable!”
After a back and forth with a Stapleton supporter, she acquiesced.
“I don’t mean to get into arguments about this,” she wrote. “I know for sure that there is too much ugliness in politics and my son was the brunt of a personal attack that was hurtful and 100 percent wrong. It was a false attack on his character. I personally might try to help campaigns be issue related only.
“But you are right. We need to concentrate on the future of Colorado.”
The Stapleton campaign had no comment.
