Former Denver political reporter Trent Seibert dead at 47

HOUSTON – Investigative journalist Trent Seibert, who brought his skills to several major U.S. daily newspapers, including The Denver Post, as well as to news websites he founded and led, has died. He was 47.

The Texas Monitor, a website he founded and led as its editor, reports that he was found dead at his home in Houston.

The Houston Chronicle reports that police went to the home Wednesday on a welfare check after colleagues hadn’t heard from him in three days.

A police spokesman tells the hronicle there were no signs of forced entry or foul play, and an autopsy has been performed to establish the cause of death.

Seibert served as a reporter and assistant city editor at the Post from 1999 to 2004, covering politics and other topics, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He also worked at The Tennessean in Nashville, the San Diego Union Tribune and KTRK-TV in Houston.

He edited the Texas Watchdog from 2009 to 2012 and founded the Texas Monitor in 2017.
