The Pueblo City Schools (D60) board has given short notice if the public wants to comment on a tentative proposal to put a property tax increase on the Nov. 6 ballot. Late last week, the district said it expects to accept public comment on the tax proposal during a special board meeting this Thursday. The meeting begins at 2 p.m. at the D60 administration building, but it’s not known when the public actually will be allowed to speak.

To be blunt, the public doesn’t have much time to devote Thursday afternoon to a school board tax proposal that’s not really settled at this point.

A draft ballot question submitted to the board by district counsel Richard Bump calls for a 6-mill property tax increase that would raise D60 taxes by $6 million a year. That rate – which works out to $1 million per mill – potentially could change, however.
