An unidentified prankster put up a portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Colorado state Capitol Thursday, near the spot where a portrait of President Donald Trump would go – if anyone cared to donate the money to have the portrait made.

The portrait gallery of the state Capitol on the building’s third floor holds the likeness of the 44 presidents before Trump. Those portraits aren’t paid for by taxpayers; they’re paid for by donations to Colorado Citizens for Culture, at a cost of around $10,000.

But 18 months into the Trump administration, Jay Seller, the organization’s president, said he has yet to see even one donation for the Trump portrait.

An aide to Democratic Sen. Steve Fenberg of Boulder noticed the Putin portrait and snapped a photo, which Fenberg later tweeted out. Fenberg told Colorado Politics he wasn’t in the building at the time and his aide did not see who set up the Putin portrait.  But it definitely isn’t photoshopped…

President Barack Obama’s portrait was unveiled a little more than two years after his inauguration, in May 2011.
