Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne is hitting the street to make her case to be governor. Sunday she’ll walk the entire length of Colfax Avenue, more than 26 miles including three counties, as part of her Meet Me on Main Street effort to reach voters.

The Democrat from Denver will walk and talk with constituents starting in Lakewood at 7 a.m. and visiting stores and talking to voters along the way, wrapping up in Aurora. She’ll visit businesses along the way, as well, her campaign says.

Lynne will be posting updates on social media with the hashtag #MeetMeonMainStreet.

She is Gov. John Hickenlooper’s second-in-command and the state’s chief operating officer. She worked for four New York City mayors, becoming a top adviser, then later coming to Colorado has an executive with Kaiser Permanente. In addition to the programs she’s developed in state government, Lynne has a lot she can chat about concerning how government should operate.

“I’ve spent my career helping people and leading big organizations – both in government and in the private sector,” Lynne said in a statement Friday.

“The Meet Me on Main Street outreach campaign builds off of what I’ve learned in that time, which is the best leaders are those who go out on the front lines and engage their customers, who in this case are the voters of Colorado.”

Colfax is said to be the longest continuous street in the country, but Lynne, 64, wasn’t daunted by walking it in a day, while stumping for office. After all, she boasts of climbing all of Colorado’s peaks above 14,000 feet.

Lynne said in a press release that her motto is “You can, and you will.”

The first-time candidate is trying to separate herself from a crowded field in the Democratic primary. The race includes other such contenders as U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, former state Treasurer Cary Kennedy and former state Sen. Mike Johnston.
