Hick’s picks are bricks: Gov. John Hickenlooper loses it in March Madness

There’s no easy way to tell you this, Colorado. Your governor is having a terrible March Madness. Few brackets are busted as badly as John Hickenlooper’s.
Colorado Politics didn’t think to ask for the governor’s bracket until the jumpshots were already falling in the NCAA basketball tournament, and by then Hickenlooper was enroute to Connecticut to help commission the USS Colorado. And when we got a look Saturday evening, one thing was for sure. If Hickenlooper was cheating by offering a late bracket, then he’s worse at cheating than he is picking hoops.
Out of 136 politicos who filled out brackets for the Politico website, Colorado’s governor was near the bottom, so far, 115th out of 136. Hick was ranked 57 spots lower than White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Among governors, Hickenlooper was 15th out of 18, as of Saturday night.
Hickenlooper went 20-12 in the first round. That’s the sound of a bracket busting wide open.
He had the South Dakota State Jackrabbits beating perennial powerhouse Ohio State. The Buckeyes won by 8, but it was tougher than expected.
Ohio State was a No. 5 seed. Perhaps Hick liked picking a team called the Jackrabbits, or perhaps he went against his personal numerology. Hickenlooper was the No. 4 seed in the governor’s bracket of a speculative Democratic primary for president in 2020 stacked up as a March Madness bracket by CNN on Thursday.
The pride of Colorado in the Politico pickings is Sen. Michael Bennet, who ranked 27th. Sen. Cory Gardner was 58th, 10 spots behind Sanders.
At least Hickenlooper didn’t stink it up as badly as House Speaker Paul Ryan, who was 134th, two spots from the bottom, Saturday evening.
If you have any suggestions for the governor, other than letting his son, Teddy, fill out his bracket next year, well, that’s what Twitter is for.
