Better Colorado Now rolls out first radio ad for Walker Stapleton

You don’t build an tank then sit out the war, so Better Colorado Now’s first advance on behalf of Walker Stapleton should come as no surprise.

The Super PAC rolled their independent campaign’s first radio ad Wednesday. The 60-second spot is called “Dangerous Cities.” And the topic is the live wire on immigration, but it could energize the governor’s race, too. Stapleton is considered a prime candidate in a field of 10, with at least four who could contend. His money and name recognition are in place, so expect him and his independent allies to roll out more policy statements so voters know more the closer Colorado gets to Jne pirarmy

Better Colorado Now says it highlights Stapleton’s “conservative leadership fighting to end sanctuary cities that have become safe havens for violent, criminal illegal immigrants.”

That’s quite a policy position, and one that should be attractive to the conservative base that’s up for grabs since Tom Tancredo dropped out of the race, as out Ernest Luning was among the very first to report. The position might play differently in the general election, depending on how hard a line Stapleton draws on other immigration issues, including at least moral support for Dreamers. President Trump is apt to drive Hispanic votes to Democrats, regardless.

Better Colorado Now, with a fat bank account beyond the sizeable wallet the campaign is packing, spent $70,150 and 282 spots.

It’s going to every media market – 51 stations, “from conservative news talk to country music to sports” – across the state from Feb. 21 to March 6, the Super PAC said Wednesday. KYGO-FM 98.5 will run 40 spots for $14,000 and KNUS-AM 710 for $10,320 to air 72 spots, then 47 other stations across the state will run 25 spots each week.

“Each and every day we are seeing Republicans unite around Walker Stapleton’s candidacy, and this ad highlighting the dangerous policies of sanctuary cities is just the beginning of our efforts to educate voters on why Walker Stapleton will be the best governor for Colorado,” Andy George, Better Colorado Now’s director, said in a statement.

“We plan to aggressively advertise statewide on radio, digital and TV until the primary on June 26. Republicans across Colorado will know Walker Stapleton is the only candidate with the organization and message to unite our party and become Colorado’s next governor in November.”

Go big.

Here’s the transcript, if you can’t listen at work:

Dangerous Cities

Aurora, Boulder, and Denver:  They call themselves sanctuary cities. But Walker Stapleton says they’re not sanctuariesat all – he says they’re safe havens for violent, criminal illegal immigrants and he wants it to stop.

Walker Stapleton is running for governor and he wants to end this dangerous policy that creates sanctuaries forviolent criminals in Colorado.

When these sanctuary cities refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement agencies, they release convictedcriminals back on the streets.

Walker Stapleton knows these policies put our families at risk.

As governor, Walker Stapleton will hold local law enforcement officials accountable and require them to work withfederal authorities to enforce our laws.

If you believe sanctuary cities are dangerous cities, like Walker Stapleton does, vote Walker Stapleton for governor.

He’ll put an end to the safe haven for criminals in Colorado.
