Dreamers aren’t just about compassion or amnesty, but dollars and cents as well, according to a New American Economy campaign headed to Colorado TVs.

The national coalition has been urging compromise on comprehensive immigration reform, and it’s pushing for a compromise now on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients. DACA recipients, brought to the U.S. as children, number about 1.8 million nationally and more than 17,000 in Colorado.

They could face deportation if Congress doesn’t intervene. President Trump signed an executive order in September to end the Obama administration’s shield, but he has signaled he’s willing to make a deal on Dreamers in exchange, mostly, for $25 billion to build a wall along the 2,000-mile border with Mexico.

New American Economy is doing a six-figure ad buy in “key” states. Besides Colorado, there’s Alaska, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.

“Dreamers can’t wait any longer,” John Feinblatt, president of New American Economy, said in a statement. “The clock is ticking, and as momentum builds for a bipartisan solution in the Senate, Americans of every political stripe are sending a simple message to Washington: Protect Dreamers.”

The ad refers watchers to iMarch.us website, which shows them how supporters can contact their lawmakers and what to say to “push for bipartisan legislation to protect Dreamers.”

The iMarch campaign started last year with more than 100 partners, including faith groups, business people and politicos to promote the benefits of a more inclusive and regulated immigrant worker program.

Former New York mayor and capitalist Michael Bloomberg, Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch and hotelier J.W. Marriott Jr. started New American Economy in 2010 and it gained traction in 2013 after the bipartisan Gang of Eight, which included Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Denver, when they tried and passed an immigration bill out of the Senate before it died without a vote in the House.

“One of the best things we can do for our economy is to pass sensible immigration reform that drives innovation and creates jobs – and the sooner Congress acts, the brighter our future will be,” Bloomberg said at the time.
