Democrat Jared Polis opening his 8th and 9th campaign field offices in Lakewood, Adams County

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Polis is opening his gubernatorial campaign’s eighth and ninth field offices in Lakewood and Adams County this weekend, his campaign announced.

Since the beginning of the year, Polis has opened the door on campaign offices in Grand Junction, Denver, Aurora, Boulder, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo, and his campaign says more than 1,000 volunteers and supporters have attended gatherings to hear from Polis and check out the new digs in their neighborhoods.

The Lakewood office at 145 S. Sheridan Blvd. holds its grand opening at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The Adams County office at 7245 Gilpin Way – mapping software thinks it’s in Denver – holds its grand opening at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Last Saturday, Polis stayed in Washington while Congress attempted to sort out the government shutdown that had just gone into effect but appeared via Skype at field office openings in Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

One of 10 Democrats running for the job held by term-limited Gov. John Hickenlooper, Polis is, by most accounts, the frontrunner in the primary.

A poll released this week by the University of Colorado’s American Politics Research Lab showed Polis was leading the pack in November, when he had the support of 24 percent of likely primary voters – four times the next-closest candidate, former State Treasurer Cary Kennedy. Fully 58 percent of voters, however, were undecided.

Polis, who made a fortune as an internet entrepreneur, is one of the wealthiest members of Congress and has already poured roughly $1.4 million into his gubernatorial campaign, nearly as much as the primary’s top fundraiser, former state Sen. Mike Johnston, has raised in contributions.

The other Democrats running in the primary are Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne, plastics manufacturer and civic leader Noel Ginsburg, activist Erik Underwood and several candidates who have filed paperwork to run but haven’t raised money or shown up at party events, including Renee Blanchard, Adam Garrity, Moses Humes and Michael Schroeder.

At least 10 Republicans are also running for the office.

The primary is June 26.
