One Colorado hires former Senate Dems’ communications director David Pourshoushtari

David Pourshoushtari has been named communications director for One Colorado, an organization that advocates for LGBTQ residents and their families. He served a similar role for two years until about two months ago for the Colorado Senate Democrats.

In an exit interview of sorts with Colorado Politics’ Joey Bunch in November, Pourshoushtari said his job at the Capitol impressed upon him how Twitter facilitates falling into sparring matches with political opponents.

“It can be so easy for us across the spectrum to get trapped in this world where we put their messages out there in the Twittersphere, go back to our respective corners, and then duke it out 140 characters at a time (sometimes 280),” he said.

Pourshoushtari also said he’d be an apple pie, if forced to choose which McDonald’s item he’d be.

“While the ‘components’ that made me what I am came from completely different places (Dad is Iranian, Mom is Korean), like the apple pie, I am All-American and a patriot to the core.”

One Colorado has set an ambitious agenda for the 2018 legislative session, Laura “Pinky” Reinsch, the organization’s political director, said earlier this month. That includes lobbying to pass legislation to make it easier for transgender residents to update the gender on their birth certificate, banning gay conversion therapy for minors and working along with other groups on immigration, voting-rights and economic issues.

The organization’s LGBTQ Lobby Day at the Capitol is set for Monday, Feb. 26.

Mansur Gidfar, a former communications director for the nonpartisan anti-corruption organization Represent Us, took over as communications director for the Colorado Senate Democratic Caucus late last year.
