Colorado Democratic Party executive director Anne Wilseck plans to step down from her job with the party in early November, a party spokesman said Monday.

“Although I’m leaving the Democratic Party, I’m not leaving the Democratic movement,” Wilseck said in a statement. “There is still so much work to do to help people all over our state have the opportunity to succeed and have a fair shot at the American Dream, and I am excited to continue that work in the next chapter of my career.”

Wilseck plans to continue working in the political arena as a consultant, a party source said.

“On behalf of the Colorado Democratic Party I want to thank Anne Wilseck for her years of hard work and exceptional service to the Democratic Party,” state party chair Morgan Carroll said in a statement, adding, “She has brought intimate knowledge of the importance of local parties, process and rules to the state party.”

Wilseck, a former officer with the Larimer County Democrats, started work as operations director for the state party in May 2014 and was named executive director in 2015, under state party chair Rick Palacio. Last year, she oversaw statewide Democratic victories, including Hillary Clinton winning the state’s electoral votes and U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet winning reelection. Wilseck was recently elected western regional vice president of executive directors by the Association of State Democratic Chairs.

“The best part of working for the Democratic Party is all of the people you get to meet when you travel around the state,” Wilseck said. “Their stories, their struggles, their hopes and their dreams are the things that inspire you to put in the long hours and do the hard work that public service demands.”
