Heroes, military and civilian

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society, which is meeting here this week, focuses on recipients of the nation’s highest award for military valor, of course. The society, made up solely of the worthy holders of the medal, also recognizes special citizens who have distinguished themselves in civilian life as well.

It’s fitting that, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Pueblo Convention Center, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention will feature a Cattle Baron’s Gala and Patriot Award Dinner to honor the following citizens:

Colorado’s former United States Senator and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who will receive the society’s Patriot Award.
