The Colorado Springs Gazette editorial: Council makes deal to move city forward
A new, post-election incarnation of City Council began doing business Tuesday and sent a message. Under its watch, it appears, our community will continue to win.
In their first regular meeting, under the direction of newly elected Council President Richard Skorman, members faced an important land trade proposal that threatened to become another infamous political quagmire.
Skorman, as a nonelected private citizen, had led opposition to another recent land trade initiated by city government and filed a lawsuit against the former council majority’s decision to approve it. This raised concerns about the proposed land trade needed for an Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame downtown.
The downtown trade predictably began with signs of more protracted political turmoil. A March 3 Gazette story quoted council members who were ready to oppose the deal, claiming they were deprived access of information adequate for making a good decision.
