The Pueblo Economic Development Corp. is engaged in two marketing campaigns – one to align our city with President Donald Trump’s push to boost U.S.-based manufacturing jobs and the other to remind state and Denver business interests that Pueblo may be just the place for those looking to expand or relocate.
The first, trumpeting Pueblo as “The Manufacturing Center of the Rockies” began in late 2015 with glossy, full-color print advertisements and emails aimed at potential business prospects across the country.
The campaign has impetus now from the new president’s emphasis on keeping and bringing back manufacturing jobs to America. Trump’s goals are right in Pueblo’s wheelhouse as the home of EVRAZ (formerly CF&I Steel) and other industrial enterprises – past, present and future – that need a willing and skilled (or trainable) workforce.
Pueblo has good transportation (rail and highway) infrastructure, strong higher education (Colorado State University-Pueblo and Pueblo Community College), lower-cost housing, sunny weather and lots of community amenities (the Riverwalk, parks, arts center, museums and Lake Pueblo to name a few). What sets Pueblo apart is the continuing support of a half-cent sales tax for economic development that few, if any other cities can offer to fund business incentives.
