March in Colorado Springs draws thousands

A day after President Donald Trump took office, thousands of people flooded the streets of downtown Colorado Springs to rally for equality and inclusion in what some demonstrators called the largest protest the city has seen in recent memory.

The march, in step with similar marches held across the world on Saturday, left Acacia Park at about 2 p.m. Protesters walked several blocks south on Tejon Street to Colorado Avenue and then returned to the park via Nevada Avenue.

They flaunted signs and banners and chanting slogans, such as “No hate, no fear, everyone is welcome here,” and “We need a leader, not a creepy tweeter.”

“I’m here because there are too many fundamental rights that are up for grabs right now,” said 28-year-old Nathan Eberhart, who lives in Colorado Springs.
