Fresh from 2016 race, ex-Rep. May joins Brophy at national lobbying/PR firm

A national government and public relations firm is rounding out its Denver office with a politically mixed team, pairing former state Rep. Jenise May, a Democrat, and former state Sen. Greg Brophy, a Republican.

May, who recently lost a bid for an open Senate District 25 seat in Adams County, will be identifying and developing strategic opportunities as an associate for Michael Best Strategies LLC, according to a news release Wednesday announcing the hire.

Michael Best Strategies is a government relations, public affairs, business and nonprofit consulting group affiliated with the Michael Best & Friedrich LLP law firm.

The firm announced last month that Brophy would join its Denver office as vice president of the western region. Brophy, a Wray farmer, will coordinate efforts with regional state offices and those in Washington, D.C.

Also joining the firm are veteran Denver political and policy strategists Jeff Thormodsgaard, who will serve as senior advisor, and Katie Wolf, who will join as senior associate.

Thormodsgaard founded Denver-based Precision Policy Group, LLC. In his new role at Michael Best Strategies, Thormodsgaard will support the regional western state offices, as well as the firm’s work in Washington, D.C.

“Michael Best Strategies’ national and state model, paired with the impressive teams they are assembling, made the choice very attractive for our team,” said Thormodsgaard. “My expertise and connections in D.C., coupled with the experience and dedication of Katie and Jenise, will provide a strong foundation to strengthen and deepen our services to clients in Colorado and surrounding states.”

Wolf also joins Michael Best Strategies from Precision Policy Group, where she served as a lobbyist, focused on issues including health care, agriculture and political strategy. Wolf will support a “broad range of government relations and lobbying efforts” for Michael Best Strategies, according to the news release.

“This group represents a deliberate and meaningful move for us to forge a strong presence in the Western United States,” Brophy said. “I’m excited to be working alongside Jeff and his team to bring a unique perspective to clients in this part of the country.”
