Under the Dome in Denver: a staff shakeup in the House GOP

Under new leadership, Colorado House Republicans have decided to replace Chief of Staff Bill Skewes, ColoradoPolitics.com has learned.

A decision to replace Skewes, who has served for the caucus since December 2010, was made last Friday.

Ryan Lynch, who temporarily served as the Colorado Republican Party’s executive director, is the top name being floated to replace Skewes.

Lynch consulted for the successful and notable campaigns of state GOP Director Steve House and most recently, Sen.-elect Kevin Priola, who defeated Democrat Jenise May in Adams County this year.

The move to replace Skewes comes after House Republicans earlier this month elected Rep. Patrick Neville of Castle Rock to serve as minority leader.

The conservative lawmaker whipped enough votes to convince former Assistant Minority Leader Polly Lawrence of Littleton not to run for the position. Lawrence was expected to serve as minority leader in the upcoming session that begins in January, but a dismal election caused the caucus to rethink its leadership.

Former House Minority Leader Brian DelGrosso of Loveland is term limited this year.

The caucus’ new leadership and staff comes after House Republicans experienced a disappointing election. It lost three seats, allowing the Democrats’ majority to grow to 37-28.
