Glenn takes in more money than Bennet in third quarter
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Darryl Glenn raised slightly more money than Democratic U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet in the third quarter of the year, according to campaign committee filing reports. However, the incumbent held a sizable lead in total donations through the election cycle and cash on hand.
Glenn’s spokesperson, Katey Price, provided a copy of the third quarter report that showed the Committee to Elect Darryl Glenn received more than $2.8 million in the July 1 through Sept. 30 filing period, slightly more than $3 million for the election cycle and had $1.9 million cash on hand.
According to the Federal Elections Commission website, the Bennet Colorado Victory campaign committee reported receiving $395,485 in the third quarter and $2.25 million for the current election cycle. The committee had $465,102 cash on hand.
The October report for a second campaign committee, Bennet for Colorado, had not yet been filed, wrote spokesman Andrew Zucker in an email. However, he provided a short news release that said the committee raised more than $2.2 million in the third quarter and had $3.6 million cash on hand.
“Everyone has underestimated Darryl Glenn this election, but these numbers- which show him out-raising a sitting U.S. senator- prove he’s not one to back down from a challenge,” said Price in a Friday, Oct. 14, news release. “Darryl’s supporters are investing in a bold, conservative outsider who will bring reform and accountability to D.C., rather than a Washington insider like Michael Bennet, who’s content with the status quo.”
“Michael’s record of working with anyone to get things done is resonating across the state,” said Bennet for Colorado spokesperson Alyssa Roberts in their release. “And with ballots (mailed to voters) next week, we’re confident we’ll have the resources we need heading into the final stretch of the campaign.”
Glenn’s campaign also announced plans to spend more than $600,000 for broadcast, cable and digital media in a statewide advertising effort.
