Letter: Becky Mizel resigns as chair of Pueblo Republican Party

On Tuesday night Becky Mizel announced her immediate resignation as chair of the Pueblo Republican Party. She said in a letter to the county party’s executive committee that her views on working through “administrative challenges” the party is facing are at odds with those held by most of the committee’s members. The letter is reproduced below.

Dear Executive Committee and Central Committee Members:

It is with great sadness that I tender my resignation as Chairman of the Pueblo Republican Party, effective immediately. I have greatly enjoyed the many opportunities for working with you as we have successfully brought the message of the Republican Party to Pueblo. Together, we have done many things that our opponents declared impossible. That profound impact was because of our members’ unique fearless dedication to our country’s founding principles.Given the well-recognized progress we have made, the Pueblo party is positioned to flourish in 2016 and beyond. However, as we face some near term administrative challenges, it is imperative that we operate in the unison that has bound us through our many challenges of the past. My views of how to resolve these challenges differ with the majority of the Executive Committee when unity is most needed. The party officers cannot work at odds with each other and remain successful through this challenge. Therefore, it is in the best interest of all for me to resign effective immediately. This timing also provides the much needed opportunity to me to attend to immediate family medical issues.

If the Executive Committee desires my assistance in resolving the issues surrounding the financial audit underway, I am available to provide any assistance requested. I am committed to seeing a prompt resolution to protect the financial condition and reputation of the party, and will remain available to you as long as required for that purpose. You have my full cooperation in providing all information that I have or can access.

In the complex matter facing the organization, I urge you to promptly formally engage expert legal counsel who can guide party executives as a thorough financial audit is conducted by an independent Certified Public Accountant. It is incumbent on the party to handle any potential financial discrepancies with accuracy, verification, transparency and compliance with banking and campaign finance requirements. Complex matters continue to require the guidance of legal and financial experts. I highly recommend following the friendly advice offered by former SOS Scott Gessler.

Thank you for your confidence and support in my past efforts to lead the Pueblo Republican Party.

Yours truly,

Becky Mizel

PERA study paints rosy picture, but not everyone is buying it

An independent study released this week provided good news for Colorado’s public pension system – a little too good for skeptical Republican lawmakers. And a move toward a different […]
