Live burn training at Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station scheduled
Colorado Springs residents might see light smoke Friday as fire officials conduct live burn training at the Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station.
According to a Friday morning news release, the live burns are scheduled 9 a.m. to noon Friday. The intent is to help better prepare defense missions and train new crews, officials said.
With the potential of visible smoke in the Pikes Peak region, officials say the public should not be alarmed or call 911.
“All safety protocols are in place and the training is performed in a controlled environment,” the news release stated.
Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station, part of Space Base Delta 1, hosts multiple Department of Defense missions and serves as NORAD and USNORTHCOM’s Alternate Command Center and as a training site .
