City of Denver to add extra emergency shelters for weekend snowstorm
The city of Denver announced Thursday it is adding additional emergency shelter locations in response to a projected severe snowstorm this weekend.
City officials are still finalizing the details about the temporary shelter, but the operation may be held at the St. Charles Recreation Center in Denver’s Cole neighborhood.
Men and transgender individuals experiencing homelessness would be allowed to seek shelter beginning Friday at 7 p.m. through Wednesday morning.
Individuals seeking shelter are required to check in at the Lawrence Street Community Center at 2222 Lawrence St., where day meals and transportation will be provided. Denver’s network of overnight shelters will be offered in the late afternoon and early evening every day.
City officials and shelter partners are monitoring the bed availablilty for women and transgender individuals across the network, and are preparing to make motel room accommodations, if needed.
Woman and transgender individuals can access an emergency shelter at 1370 Elations St., where access to additional overflow shelters will be provided, if needed.
