Applications open for new small business grant in Denver

Small businesses in Denver can apply for a new round of relief grants to help cover expenses as they deal with financial losses because of COVID-19.
To qualify, businesses must have at least one full-time employee and provide documents showing a loss in revenue as a result of coronavirus restrictions put in place, according to the application eligibility page.
“The survival of our small businesses is critical to the livelihoods of our communities and the success of Denver’s economic recovery,” Mayor Michael Hancock said in a statement.
“We know the need for financial support to sustain them during this pandemic is dire, and it is our hope that these funds will help them traverse the gap to open in 2021.”
Denver Economic Development and Opportunity is in charge of awarding the new round of relief and will range between $3,500 to $7,000, officials said.
The new round of relief was announced after the city’s application for the state’s Small Business Relief Program was accepted.
An exact amount of money allocated to Denver will be known sometime next week, officials said.
Additionally, the city announced it intends to add $1.5 million of federal funding into the small business program to support industries not currently eligible for the state funding.
However, this is contingent to the approve of Denver City Council.
Interested businesses can apply on the city’s web portal until Jan. 26 at 5 p.m.
