Denver’s Deputy Director of Public Safety has resigned, according to a spokesperson for Mayor Michael Hancock’s office.

Eric Williams, a Denver native, joined the Department of Public Safety in June 2018, according to his biography on the city’s website.

Prior to returning to Denver, Williams served as a supervisory special agent with the FBI in Washington, D.C.

He headed up the department’s Public Integrity Division.

The mayor’s office would not elaborate about why Williams resigned or comment on who might replace him.

However, KDVR-Fox31 reported, citing “a high-ranking city hall official,” that Williams resigned “because of the slow pace of the Denver Sheriff’s Department internal affairs reform process.”

The Public Safety department is led by Troy Riggs, who took over early last year.
