Officials at Denver International Airport are not agreeing to pay more money or allow more time for the major terminal construction project currently underway.

Construction halted for 6 months last year while Great Hall Partners, the contractor, investigated weak concrete discovered at the airport. The contractor then submitted multiple claims for relief, but DIA officials denied the first claim Monday, according to a claim response sent Friday.

DIA’s response states that Great Hall Partners failed to account for the delay and mitigate the consequences.

Both parties plan on going into mediation to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, Great Hall Partners’ monthly bondholder reports suggest there will be significant delays in the project as a result of the multiple unresolved disputes.

Their June report predicted a 30-month delay, citing the concrete testing as well as changes put forth by DIA, putting the completion date at May 2024. 

If both parties do not reach an agreement, Great Hall will be forced to complete the project by the original date of November 2021, or face the financial burden of any delays.

DIA is relocating its security checkpoints from the floor of its main terminal to the same floor as the passenger check-in stations. The move will open up extra retail space in the terminal.
