The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: A low tax burden?
Homes in Mesa County are worth more now than at any point in the past decade.
That’s a solid sign of recovery from the Great Recession, though we’ve long argued that it won’t truly be complete until the workforce numbers are back to where they were at their peak in the mid-2000s. Maybe by then, we’ll have made enough progress on the wage gap to affect attitudes toward tax policy in the community.
But back to home values. With greater values come higher tax bills. Mesa County Assessor Ken Brownlee and his team of appraisers have spent the past year and half assessing the value of 80,000 properties and have sent out value notices that have increased 13 to 15 percent on average.
