The Pueblo Chieftain: Sheriffs’ hesitance raises red flag
This is not the way our democracy or our legal system are supposed to work.
A bill that would allow law enforcement officers to confiscate guns from people suspected of posing a significant threat to themselves or others hasn’t become law yet, but some Colorado sheriffs already are thinking about disregarding it or selectively enforcing it.
The so-called “red flag” bill would require police to temporarily take away guns from someone if a judge issues an extreme risk protective order based on a complaint by a family member or acquaintance that the gun owner poses a significant threat.
