The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: Let’s do what we can to mitigate shutdown

Anyone questioning the fundamental usefulness of government is getting a crash course in the vital role federal jobs and services play in maintaining a well-ordered society and high-functioning economy.

Most of us don’t really notice just what it is that the government does until it’s not doing it anymore. In this case, a significant portion of it has been turned off by a budgetary impasse over funding for a border wall.
