Trade group sets post-election media event with Polis campaign

The Outdoor Industry Association’s media briefing two days after the election will feature Jared Polis’ campaign, win or lose.

The Boulder-based association endorsed the Democrat from Boulder, after all, so campaign manager Jenn Ridder will join others to talk about “The Aftermath” of next Tuesday’s election as part of the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

Michael Fortney, the campaign manager for Republican Walker Stapleton, replied “nope” when Colorado Politics texted to ask if the association checked his schedule, in case it was the Stapleton agenda the association might need to hear about.

“OIA endorsed Jared Polis and regardless of the outcome, that campaign’s perspective will be interesting to hear,” association spokesman Cody Wertz said in an email asking about the Stapleton snub.

In other words, Ridder might have to explain how Polis lost the race, after leading comfortably in most polls.

The media event is Nov. 8, the first day of the trade show that continues until Nov. 11.

The association sent out a press release saying its political director, Alex Boian, will join “Colorado-elected leaders,” including U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, to talk about the election and what it means for Congress, Colorado and the governor’s office.

The association represents about 1,300 companies and says it supports 229,000 Colorado jobs. It presented Polis its Friend of the Outdoor Industry award in 2015 and cited his role as co-chair of the U.S. House Outdoor Recreation Caucus.
