EPA’s Pruitt to speak in Denver this weekend
Scott Pruitt, the embattled administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, will speak in Denver this weekend, organizers of the Western Conservative Summit said Tuesday morning.
Pruitt and Attorney Jeff Sessions, who was previously announced, will speak Friday night at the ticketed conclave of conservative activists and operatives at the Colorado Convention Center.
“2018 will see a record number of President Trump’s cabinet-level officials speaking at the Western Conservative Summit,” Jeff Hunt, vice president of public policy at Colorado Christian University and director of the Centennial Institute, which puts on the summit.
“Administrator Pruitt has returned the EPA to its original intent of protecting the environment without unnecessarily restricting energy and business development in America. We are very excited that Administrator Pruitt will be addressing the attendees of the Western Conservative Summit.”
Last year, the first with Trump’s administration in place, featured Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.
Friday and Saturday’s agenda includes more than 40 speakers, including the four Republicans in the June 26 gubernatorial primary.
Pruitt and Sessions are major newsmakers – the EPA secretary who is the focus of 10 investigations alleging ethics breaches and lavish.
Sessions has been under fire from President Trump for recusing himself from overseeing a special counsel’s probe into whether anyone from the Trump campaign colluded with Russians to meddle in the 2016 election to help defeat Hillary Clinton.
The Western Conservative Summit pointed to Pruitt’s bio on the EPA website that said he has “a proven track record of working with others – including industry, farmers, ranchers, landowners and small business owners – who want to do the right thing by the environment.”
Pruitt is the former Oklahoma attorney general who sued the agency he now heads over climate change rules. When Trump nominated Pruitt in December 2016, he called Pruitt “an expert in Constitutional law” who “brings a deep understanding of the impact of regulations on both the environment and the economy.”
This year’s lineup of speakers also is expected to include former Reagan administrator Attorney General Edwin Meese, National Rifle Association spokeswoman Dana Loesch, YouTube stars Diamond, “Fox and Friends” co-host Ainsley Earhardt, former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann and Focus on the Family founder James Dobson.
“The Western Conservative Summit is recognized as the national forum where open dialogue celebrates conservative values, faith, family and freedom for our future,” Hunt said in the announcement. “It’s also grown to become the largest gathering of conservatives outside Wash
