One Colorado, the state’s leading advocacy organization for LGBTQ Coloradans, will host a debate with the four candidates for governor from the Democratic Party on Thursday, June 7.

The debate, which will focus on LGBTQ issues, will be moderated by Colorado Politics’ own Joey Bunch and is to be held at the EXDO Event Center,  1399 35th St. in Denver. It starts at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

According to a statement by One Colorado, all four Democratic candidates will attend. Republican candidates were also invited but they are slated to appear at a KUSA-9News debate that same evening.

The four candidates are former state treasurer Cary Kennedy, former state Sen. Michael Johnston and Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne, all of Denver; and U.S. Rep. Jared Polis of Boulder.

One Colorado has not endorsed a candidate for governor and does not plan to endorse any primary candidate, said spokesman David Pourshoushtari.

“There is a lot at stake for LGBTQ Coloradans and their families in this election,” said One Colorado Executive Director Daniel Ramos in a statement to Colorado Politics. “At a time when we’re seeing this White House chip away at protections for LGBTQ people, it is more important than ever Colorado remains ahead of the curve.”

The forum, and One Colorado’s work heading up to Election Day, is intended to encourage LGBTQ Coloradans and their families to pay close attention to the election, and to get out the vote for pro-equality candidates, he explained.

“Our community’s victories and rights are at stake,” Ramos added. “That is why it’s so important for the LGBTQ community to be fully engaged” in the 2018 election.
