The U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday ranked U.S. cities by population increase, and a Colorado community came in at No. 7 in the nation for the rate of its growth over a one-year period.

It’s Castle Rock, which in the year ending July 1, 2017, grew by a rate of 5.1 percent, for an estimated total 2017 population of 62,276.

Castle Rock, the seat of fast-growing Douglas County, was compared with other U.S. cities with populations of 50,000 or more in 2016.

No other Colorado city finished in the top 15; seven of the fastest-growing cities are in Texas, including the top three: Frisco (up 8.2 percent), New Braunfels (up 8 percent) and Pflugerville (up 6.5 percent).

In a separate ranking of cities with the largest numerical gain in population over a one-year span, San Antonio came out on top with an added 24,208 residents, followed closely by Phoenix (up 24,036) and Dallas (up 18,935). No Colorado city appeared on that list.

The Census Bureau said Denver added 9,844 people between 2016 and 2017 for an estimated population of 704,621 as of last July 1. Colorado Springs gained 6,874 people for a total of 464,474.

Meanwhile, the state of Colorado added a net 77,049 residents over the one-year period, for an estimated total of 5,607,154.
