This Week at the Capitol: April 29 – May 4

Note: beginning Tuesday, April 30, the Senate will route all bills, regardless of topic, through one of three committees: Finance, Appropriations and/or State, Veterans and Military Affairs. This decision is based on the General Assembly reaching the last ten days of the 2018 legislative session.
Senate Majority Leader Chris Holbert of Parker said that as of Tuesday, when a bill is assigned to State Affairs, normally referred to as a “kill” committee, it should not be taken as a sign that the bill is destined for trouble. The State Affairs committee will become a “catch-all” for bills that don’t require approval from the Finance Committee.
In addition, the usual caution that committee schedules are subject to change now also applies to bills; some will be assigned to a committee with little warning, other than an announcement from legislative leaders on the House or Senate floor.
Here are the legislative committee hearings of note for the week ahead at the Colorado Capitol. Committee schedules are subject to change. The daily schedule is available on the legislature’s website. Click here and scroll down to committee hearings to listen online.
