Grand Junction Sentinel: Early child learning is a great investment

Consider this: Many states calculate how many prisons beds they need by how many kids are not able to read at third grade.

Didn’t this community just pass a public safety tax? What if 20 years ago we had dedicated those dollars to early childhood learning?

Mesa County voters are way overdue dig into their pockets and pay for the healthy of development of very young children to improve the quality of life in this community.

Research proves that investing in early childhood education programs is far cheaper than spending on the negative consequences associated with a lack of such programs. Lack of access to early intervention affects IQ, health, educational attainment, income, crime, the number of people on welfare and a host of other outcomes with high social costs.
