Donna Lynne lists high-profile women backing her race for governor

Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne has some of the state’s best-known women in business, education and other civic life backing her race for governor. The campaign released of 87 “Trailblazers” endorsing the Democrat from Denver Monday.

“This campaign is about bringing people together and getting things done for all Coloradans.” Lynne, who also is the state’s chief operating officer, said in a statement. “I am proud that such a diverse and impressive group of women have thrown their support behind our campaign. They know that our state needs a leader with the experience and expertise to do the job of governor on day one.

“As I’ve said before, the governor’s office is not where beginners go to learn, and these Trailblazers recognize that if we’re going to move our state in the right direction, it’s time we put a woman with experience in the governor’s office.”

The list includes state Sen. Lucia Guzman of Denver, and state Rep. JoAnn Ginal of Fort Collins, as well as Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies executive director Marguerite Salazar. The list also includes Tamra Ward, the Denver Zoo chief external relations officer and the former chief executive of the Colorado Concern business alliance.

Gov. John Hickenlooper’s former spokeswoman Kathy Maloney Green is on the list, and so is his current rep, Jacque Montgomery, as well as former state Supreme Court Justice Jean Dubofsky and Leanna Clark, the vice chancellor for the University of Colorado Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Lynne is waiting on the Secretary of State’s Office to finish validating her signatures to get on the June 26 primary ballot. Petitions for former state Sen. Mike Johnston were validated last month, securing his spot on the ballot.

Former state Treasurer Cary Kennedy of Denver secured the top line on the ballot with 62 percent of the delegates at last Saturday’s Democratic State Assembly in Broomfield. U.S. Rep. Jared Polis was second with 33 percent. Candidates have to get 30 percent at the assembly to qualify for the ballot.
