Senate GOP sounds out the citizenry

Colorado’s vaunted “citizen legislature” – 100 part-time lawmakers who are supposed to return to real jobs and lives in the off-season – arguably ensures its members keep in touch with the people who elected them. Ruling Senate Republicans now want to take the relationship a step further.

The Senate GOP press shop announced an initiative this week to “Make Your Voice Heard” – “…allowing constituents across Colorado to submit suggestions for legislation they’d like to see modified or repealed.” Sure, citizens can do that right now, on their own initiative, but perhaps by reaching out, the senators figure, they’re more likely to get feedback.

From the Senate Republicans’ press announcement:

Want to make your voice heard in government? Tell us which laws you think should be repealed or changed to improve the lives of all Coloradans. We’re listening, Colorado.

Followed by:

If you could change or repeal a law or laws, what would it be?

…And then there’s an input field where visitors can enter their ideas. The web page also displays the responses; there are two so far, including one that calls for scrapping metro Denver’s auto-emissions testing program.

Read the full responses – and track how many more come in – at the Senate GOP website. Here’s that page address again.
