Cory Gardner: Doing his part to ease the burden on brews

Just out of the PR pipeline from our nation’s capital is word that our state’s junior U.S. senator is helping craft federal legislation on craft beers. It’ll lower taxes, ease regulations and take other steps to lighten the load on the industry, which has a high profile in our state.

Republican Cory Gardner knows the post-modern brews are especially near and dear to a lot of Coloradans and lend our destination state some of its current hipness. So, his press shop thought we’d all like to know that Gardner:

…a member of the Senate Bipartisan Small Brewers Caucus, joined Senators Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Ron Wyden (OR) in introducing the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation reduces federal excise taxes, eases compliance burdens, and streamlines federal regulations for the craft beverage industry.

“Colorado is home to more than 350 small and independent brewers that employ more than 20,000 people. The industry contributes significantly to our state’s economy, and it’s important that Washington doesn’t stand in the way of its continued success,” said Gardner. “The Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act addresses federal tax laws and regulations that inhibit small brewers’ growth so that they can continue to create jobs and boost communities across the four corners of Colorado and throughout our country.”

Cool! Wait, there’s a Senate Bipartisan Small Brewers Caucus? Good to know. Perhaps some of you hardcore brew buffs knew that already.

Colorado senate advances bill to let free speech go free-range on campus

Republican state Sen. Tim Neville of Littleton says it’s wrong to confine college students’ views to “free speech zones” on Colorado campuses. Neville’s Senate Bill 62, approved today by the Senate Education committee, would set them free. The measure now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
