Letter: Criticism of GOP field by Latinos unwarranted

Editor,

I found last week’s Colorado Statesman article regarding the Latino attitude toward the GOP presidential candidates very disturbing on several levels. Their anger over the fact that we have not given legal status to people who have broken into our country is unwarranted. Like it or not, the term illegal still has real meaning. If someone has broken into your house and decided they should live in it, it does not matter if they are fixing the porch. It is still illegal entry and we have no reason to tolerate that.So why are we not talking about workable work visas? I would certainly let someone here legally on a work visa fix my porch.

There were comments about support and handouts. It is common knowledge that non-citizens should not be receiving public benefits, yet there is considerable evidence to support the fact that some are receiving benefits due to our government’s disrespect of its own laws.

The Hispanic population is part of the general population, and most of us interact with all races freely and with respect. The immigration crisis is a manufactured product by the U.S. government due to its failure to uphold the laws of our nation and to protect its borders. Many of us are getting quite tired of the demands of special interest groups and contrived inequalities. The candidates should be discussing how to create a vibrant, successful country where the law of the land is followed, the Constitution is respected and the country governed by it.
