Voting started Friday to pick the book that will be distributed to 75,000 Colorado children next spring. In each of the last nine years One Book Colorado has handed a free book to 4-year-olds across the state.

The Governor's Office said Friday night that this year's finalists are:

The winning book will be distributed through public and military libraries and preschools in the Denver Preschool Program April 13 through April 26.

Last year's book was "Penguinaut!" by Marcie Colleen and Emma Yarlett.

The idea of One Book Colorado is to encourage families to read together. The privately funded partnership has handed out about 600,000 since its inception in 2012.

Until this year the program was known as One Book 4 Colorado.
