Some ballot issues are strictly matters of dollars and sense. Issue 6A on the ballot for Pueblo West voters could be a matter of life or death.
The proposed ballot measure would levy a 1-cent sales tax on purchases made within the community’s metropolitan district boundaries. On a $100 purchase, that would amount to an extra dollar. That’s quite a bit less than the 3.5-cent sales tax Pueblo’s government levies on purchases within its city limits.
The money raised would pay for construction and staffing of a new fire station in the southwestern section of Pueblo West. After that station is up and running, the money raised from the sales tax would be applied to fire protection needs throughout the district, such as replacing outdated fire trucks and other equipment.
