Following the May 7 shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch, the Pueblo City Schools (D60) board of education got a report about the steps that have been taken to make schools here safe.

Board vice president Frank Latino summed up the situation very well when he said: “We cannot be proactive enough.”

That’s the right attitude for D60 officials to be taking with regard to school security. If the school district isn’t able to provide a safe environment for its students, teachers and staff, then nothing else really matters.
