It’s not uncommon for speakers at news conferences to get a bit carried away and make bold statements that aren’t quite backed up by reality.

Yet when officials at Colorado State University-Pueblo gathered last week to proclaim that a new doctorate program in nursing will be “a pivotal point in the history of our university,” they may not have been exaggerating at all.

The new program could, in fact, be a sign of bigger things to come for a college that wants to be known as the “People’s University of the Southwest United States” by 2028.
