Having state Sen. Leroy Garcia in a key leadership position in the Colorado Legislature is starting to pay benefits. Garcia, recently selected by his colleagues as Senate minority leader, wants to have a special legislative committee study economic development in rural parts of the state this summer.
It’s not a done deal yet. The Legislative Council would have to approve the new committee’s formation.
And there’s no guarantee the committee will come up with any meaningful ideas to bring jobs to Pueblo and other communities outside the Denver and Colorado Springs metro areas. But at least it’s worth a try.
