After children across the state submitted more than 1,000 name recommendations, 20 have been selected as the names for the Colorado Department of Transportation’s newest snowplows.
Gov. Jared Polis’ office announced the winners of the inaugural “Name That Plow” contest Wednesday, with names including Snowtorious B.I.G., Darth Blader, Plowzilla and No-way Snow-day.
The contest, announced in March, was open exclusively to Colorado’s elementary school students.
“The creativity of Colorado’s kids shines through in this great group of names and we’re appreciative to all who offered their ideas in this first-ever contest,” Polis said in a release.
The 20 winning names are:
- Arctic King
- Cheese Ball
- Darth Blader
- Fresh Plowder
- Jack Frost
- Mr. Plow
- Mr. Snowtastic
- No-way Snow-day
- Snow Crusher
- Snowtorious B.I.G.
- Zebulon Ice
Once the plows have been named, with decals, each one can be tracked on the state's road conditions website. The 20 snowplows are the newest in the state’s 800-plow fleet.
“When these plows and their drivers are hard at work in the years to come, we will all be able to keep track of their efforts on cotrip.org, or check for the name on the door the next time you see a CDOT plow on the road,” Polis said.
The winning students will be notified through their parents' or guardian's email or phone number that were provided in the submissions, Polis said.
The students will have the opportunity to take a photo with the snowplow that has their winning name on it this summer or in early fall.
