WATCH: Aurora votes to stop red-light cameras

Voters in Aurora have overwhelmingly told the City Council to end its program of using cameras to catch motorists running red lights.

Aurora Mayor Bob LeGare said he was surprised by how many voters rejected red-light cameras in last week’s election.

“The question was very straightforward: If someone runs a red light, should they get a ticket? And the answer was a resounding no,” he said.

By a margin of 2-1, Aurora voters want the red-light camera program to end. The contract runs through Jan. 1, so it’s likely they would be active until Jan. 2.
