Eric Trump and his wife, Lara Trump, arrive for a New Year's Eve gala at Mar-a-Lago resort in 2017 in Palm Beach, Fla.

Lara Trump, the president's daughter-in-law and a senior adviser to his campaign, says former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper blew an opportunity on national TV last week.

On "Business for Breakfast" with Jimmy Sengenberger on AM 1690 Denver's Money Talk radio, she said Hickenlooper, who's running for president, was dodging the label "capitalist" in his run for president.

"He would have been smarter to embrace that and say, 'I want what works, and capitalism obviously works,'" said Lara Trump, the wife of the president's second son, Eric.

Actually, on NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" last week, the former Denver brew pub founder and restaurateur said he's a capitalist, just not a Trump capitalist.

"Capitalism and the American dream [are] supposed to provide security and opportunity for the middle class and poor people," Hickenlooper told Meyers. "And right now it's only helping people at the top."

Lara Trump told Sengenberger that Democrats seem more comfortable embracing the term socialist. She said the economy is working, citing low unemployment.

"I don't know what is happening in this country," she said. "I always say I don't know who gave Democrats the shovel and said, 'Start digging,' but it's pretty amazing when you see how far out of their way they're going to look really crazy, quite frankly."

She predicted a "very easy victory" for Donald Trump next year.

She dismissed Beto O'Rourke as someone who "seems to be a very good skateboarder" who lost his race for the U.S. Senate last year.
