News: The Denver Broncos joined other National Football League teams for the 2023 My Cleats My Cause program, and once the game where custom-designed cleats bearing the logos of a nonprofit near and dear to each player’s heart had concluded, several of the Broncos took the promotion one step further.

Justin Simmons, Lloyd Cushenberry III, Elijah Garcia, Will Sherman, D.J. Jones and Thomas Incoom – along with several Denver Broncos Cheerleaders – paid a visit to West Middle School to present 100 pairs of new athletic shoes to the students there who are Colorado UpLift scholars.

“It was a day filled with inspiration, laughter and, of course, brand new shoes,” said Dr. Joseph Sanders, Colorado UpLift’s chief executive officer. “Our students at West were over the moon as they had the unique chance to meet and be inspired by some of their favorite Broncos and cheerleaders.”

The energy, Sanders added, “was contagious, and the smiles on their faces were priceless. It’s not every day that you get to share the same space with your heroes – and the impact on our students was truly heartwarming.”

The joy of receiving something “as fundamental and cherished as a new pair of shoes is immeasurable, and we’re deeply grateful for this thoughtful gesture,” Sanders said, adding, “The Broncos are champions both on and off the field and their commitment to making a difference in our community has left an indelible mark.” 

About the organization: Colorado UpLift is a nonprofit youth services organization that was founded in 1993. Its mission is to build long-term, life-changing relationships with urban youths, equipping them to thrive and contribute to their community by teaching character, leadership and life skills to participants in the Denver and Aurora public schools.
