Denver protesters arrested for blocking traffic during climate change demonstration
Climate Strike Action Week is kicking things up a notch.
After climate change protesters marched in Denver and around the world Friday, their week of planned events continued with demonstrations that blocked traffic Monday.
Five members of Extinction Rebellion Denver were arrested Monday morning for blocking intersections, reports CPR, though the group had told police beforehand that they had planned on doing so.
The goal was to delay drivers enough to grab their attention and deliver their message, members of the group told CPR.
“Our politicians have failed us. Our leaders have failed us. Future generations are at risk,” said demonstrator Christina LaFon. “And if we don’t take serious action, which goes much further than blocking traffic for a minute, we’re all in serious peril.”
