2020 ELECTION | Bennet on Biden: ‘Time for a new generation of leadership’ (VIDEO)

Colorado’s Sen. Michael Bennet is one of 23 candidates vying for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and the author of a recent book on restoring America’s “broken” politics. Bennet sits down with Judy Woodruff to discuss why doesn’t think Joe Biden is the candidate of the future that Democrats need, his plan for universal health care and repairing American alliances with Europe.

Democratic presidential front runner Joe Biden doesn’t represent the future of the party, Colorado candidate Michael Bennet said on PBS this week.

“It’s time for a new generation of leadership,” said Bennet, 54, in discussing Biden, 76.

During an interview Wednesday, PBS NewsHour anchor Judy Woodruff asked Bennet: “Does Joe Biden represent the future?”

“No, I don’t think so,” Bennet answered.

That’s coming from a candidate who polls show to be near the back of the pack among some two dozen Democratic candidates for the White House, whereas former Vice President Biden has been comfortably in the lead since he announced his candidacy.

Bennet, a Colorado senator, told Woodruff that he was “not surprised that [Biden] is leading in the polls, because he has more name recognition certainly than I do. But we are going to have a vigorous competition of ideas in this Democratic primary. And I think we need to do that, because I don’t think the country, especially the part of the country I come from, Colorado, I don’t think we have any idea what the national Democratic Party stands for. And that has to be understood by the voters, so that we can take on Donald Trump and beat him.”
