The Pueblo Chieftain: PCC, other colleges ask for 4-year nursing degree
Pueblo Community College and other two-year colleges could offer four-year nursing degrees under a bill recently introduced in the Colorado Legislature.
House Bill 18-1086 would authorize the state’s community college system to include four-year bachelor of science degrees in nursing, thus helping to ease a growing shortage of trained nurses in Colorado. If it passes, PCC would be able to make a four-year degree available to students in pursuit of nursing positions much in demand at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo and many area hospitals.
“Keep in mind, Pueblo Community College’s mission is to transform student lives and to strengthen the regional economy by empowering individual achievement through a continuum of education,” said PCC President Patty Erjavec. “This is a great opportunity for PCC to advance our efforts of student access, affordability and degree completion in this most noble profession.”
